Woodpecker Removal & Control

Woodpeckers are a nuisance when they decide to drum, drill, live, or roost on the siding of your house instead of a tree. Woodpeckers hammer on trees for two reasons: in search of food, and as a signaling device. If your house has insects, then that gives woodpeckers a reason to peck on your house, causing quite a lot of damage to a home.

Woodpeckers that drum, drill, or live in nesting areas where they have created holes in wood siding may be signaling territorial boundaries, could be looking for grubs living under the tree bark or in the wood on the house, or may be trying to make a home for her babies. If you have a family of woodpeckers living with you, as the young develop they will contaminate attics, rooftops and wall cavities with waste and bird mites.

Vacation homes or cabins that are vacant part of the year are prime targets for woodpeckers. For this same reason, barns and other extra wooden buildings on your property may see extensive woodpecker damage.

Note: Woodpeckers are federally protected birds. If you have a woodpecker problem, contact us for woodpecker removal and control services.

Pigeon Removal & Control

Pigeons have adapted well to urban environments. Most cities are full of flocks of these birds looking for handouts. They often associate humans with food, and are unafraid to flock closely to people. Their nesting material can clog vents and drain pipes, and cause potential fire hazards. The droppings and feathers can contaminate large quantities of livestock feed and food destined for human consumption. Pigeons may roost on rooftops, eves, or ledges where they hatch their chicks. Extremely dependent on humans, pigeons rely very little on themselves to provide food and sites for roosting and nesting. Although they are commonly found around farm yards, grain elevators and feed mills, pigeons are a staple in many parks, on city buildings, bridges, and other structures.

Pigeon droppings will stain and advance the deterioration of buildings where they roost. Large quantities of bird feces will often kill vegetation, produce objectionable odors, and becomes aesthetically unpleasing when left unchecked. Pigeons are know to carry and transfer diseases to both people and livestock due to their droppings. Structures that are inhabited by pigeons not only sustain damage from manure droppings, but can also harbor diseases. Call us for safe and effective pigeon removal and pigeon control.

Starling Removal & Control

Starlings also often choose to nest in buildings. These birds are not as dirty as pigeons, but feces buildup can lead to structural damage from the uric acid in droppings, plus the bacteria, fungal agents and parasites in the feces also pose a health risk. Less urbanized birds ? seagulls, crows, geese, ducks, and vultures ? can cause problems as well, with noise and unwanted droppings.

Successful Bird Removal

Successful control is dependent upon early recognition of damage and immediate action. The longer corrective action is delayed, the more difficult it will be to stop the bird’s activity. First, a check for the presence of insects must be done since this food source may be the main attraction for woodpeckers. If insects are present, such as carpenter bees , an insect control program must be initiated.

Scaring or hazing woodpeckers may be successful if started promptly. The scaring method relies upon the woodpecker to respond to danger or an unpleasant experience. Woodpeckers may be excluded from some surfaces by covering the area with plastic, nylon netting or hardware cloth.

Due to federal regulations, trapping and removal of the nuisance bird is the last resort. Call Westchester Wildlife servicing Westchester, Dutchess and Fairfield Counties.
