Do it Youself Products

The Pro-cone.

Jim Dreisacker, who for over 28 years has helped homeowners with what he calls nuisance wildlife, is the inventor of the Pro-cone (see photo of rat existing the pro-cone) designed especially for effective mice, rat and rodent removal from buildings and structures.

These “do it yourself” products, designed for professional and residential use, are available online from Batcone.com. Choose between the Pro-Cone Round, Pro-Cone Square or Pro-Cone Corner.

This professional, multi-use, reusable, exclusion cone can be used for bats, birds, mice, and flying squirrels. Made of durable clear polycarbonate, these cones can be used over and over for exclusion of rodents, mice and rats.

Removing Mice Yourself

Always use caution! Among other diseases, mice may spread E.coli through bites, fleas, microbes, feces and partially eaten foodstuffs. A single mouse can produce sixty feces droppings in one day. Mice will also damage electrical wires by chewing on them.

Mice Removal and Prevention

It is not easy to permanently rid a structure of mice and/or rats ; they coexist with humans quite well. Excluding rodents from a structure is the most successful form of mouse control; physically restricting access to your home may be the only solution for long term relief from rat and mouse problems. Because mice are excellent climbers and can squeeze through a hole only a 1/4″ in size, mouse control or exclusion can be a laborious task.

Habitat modification also is a key component in mouse control. Start by removing food sources, such as pet foods left out, and human food scraps. Hiding places, if possible, should be eliminated.

Effective Mouse Control

Effective mouse control involves sanitation, mouse proof construction and population reduction. The first two are useful as preventive measures. When a mouse infestation already exists, some form of population reduction is almost always necessary. Reduction techniques include trapping and poisoning.

Snap trapping and exclusion work best to remove mice from your home. Exclusion techniques include seal cracks and openings in building foundations and openings for water pipes, vents and utilities with metal or concrete. Doors, windows and screens should fit tightly. It may be necessary to cover the edges with metal to prevent gnawing. Plastic sheeting or screen, wood, rubber or other gnawable materials are unsuitable for plugging holes used by mice
